Italian rewarded for impressive month at Manchester City

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is Barclays Manager of the Month for October after leading the club through a goal-filled and unbeaten month.

City began the month with a remarkable 4-0 away win at Blackburn Rovers, before netting another four goals against Aston Villa at home - whilst only conceding one to the Villains.

The emphatic 6-1 win against rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford followed, while the club ended the month on a high with a confident 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In total, Manchester City netted an incredible 17 goals during October, in what has been an extraordinarily goal-heavy Barclays Premier League season.

Dutch hitman rewarded with Barclays Player of the Month and the Barclays Golden Boot ’10-goal’ Landmark award after scintillating month

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has scooped the Barclays Player of the Month award for October after an electrifying month that saw the 28-year old score seven goals in three games as the Gunners leapt up to 7th in the Barclays Premier League table.

Van Persie’s notable goal tally this month has taken him to the top of the Barclays Premier League scorers’ chart. He is also the first player to reach 10-goals in the race for the Barclays Golden Boot and so will now receive £10,000 to donate to a charity of his choice.

The Arsenal captain led from the front, scoring both goals against Sunderland at the Emirates as his side triumphed 2-1. His excellent form continued as he went on to bag another double as Arsenal overcame Stoke 3-1 at home.

The Dutchman rounded off an impressive month with a memorable hat-trick against London rivals Chelsea. Van Persie scored his sides’ first to level the match 1-1 and was back amongst the goals to finish Chelsea off with two late strikes.

This is the third time that he has won the Barclays Player of the Month award, having previously claimed the prize in November 2005 and October 2009.

These decisions were made by the Barclays Awards Panel, which includes representatives from football’s governing bodies, the media and fans.
